The stone intaglio, perhaps used as a seal, is delicately carved with a chubby, winged Eros playing a gracefully rendered lyre. With feet standing on a ground line, the incised wings of Eros are extended from his back, his head is turned in profile and he reaches across his body with his right arm to strum the large lyre held in his left arm.
Eros was the mischievous son of Aphrodite and enjoyed shooting arrows of love into the hearts of unsuspecting victims. In Roman legend, Eros himself falls in love with and woos a beautiful mortal girl named Psyche.
