This clay spherical jug with slightly flattened bottom has a wide central neck with everted rim and a small single handle that is slightly pinched at the top and divides into two ridges where it is attached at the lower body.  A short rectangular spout rises from the opposite side of the vessel with an antelope head that punctuates the jar's shoulder. This adds to it's visual appeal and distinguishes it from the simplest versions of this type of vessel.

Condition:  Neck cracked and rejoined to shoulder, antelope head rejoined to spout, small loss to rim and neck where breakage has occurred.  Otherwise complete and in good condition with much of the original surface remaining.

Dimensions:    Height:  16.5 cm  (6 1/2 inches)

Provenance:  Private Collection of a Foreign service diplomat, acquired in Tehran in 1965.
